Fishing this week is slow and the seas may be a bit rougher than usual from the hurricane up in the Carolinas, but if you’re heading out you may be able to snag a few small mahi trolling with bonita strips, ballyhoo, or squid. At the 120’ ledge, kingfish have been consistent, and mutton snapper have been gobbling up sardines if bottom fishing is your method of choice.

Quite a few schools of mullet have been starting to show up, which is great news for snook fishing at night inshore, but we still have a few weeks to go until the mullet run heats up. Juno Bait shop recommends Yo-Zuri Mag Darters, DOA Bait Busters, and Rapala X-Raps, with live finger mullet being the number one choice for snook!

Food Network celebrity, Chef Jeff Tila, will be in Boca Raton next Friday, September 21st, giving a live demonstration at the St. Andrews Estates retirement community. The event will benefit the Acts Samaritan Fund, which supports residents who outlive their financial resources.

Chef Tila has appeared on multiple Food Network favorites including “Chopped,” “Cutthroat Kitchen,” and “Iron Chef.” His modern Asian Fusion cuisine is a specialty and he is among the best in the world.

At 11 a.m. he will give a live demo plus guests can delight in a unique dish he will prepare.

The Palm Beach County March for Hunger fundraiser will be held this Saturday, September 15th from 8 a.m.-2 p.m. at the Catherine Strong Splash Park in Delray Beach.

The fundraiser was organized by the HATT Foundation, to raise money and awareness for hungry children and families in the area. “The purpose of the campaign is to provide food to nourish the bodies, and books to feed the minds of at-risk families, children without parents, elders without government support, students without help and in need while educating others of the ongoing needs in the community,” according to the organization’s website. “We are also holding this event to raise awareness of the growing number of children, families, and elders in Palm Beach County, FL that are

13,000 acres off of Beeline Highway in Palm Beach Gardens will get a fishing pier, nature trails and pavilions for local fishermen, hikers and nature photographers.

The acreage is in the Loxahatchee Slough, the largest nature preserve of the county’s 30+ preserves.

The new hiking, biking and equestrian trails will appeal to the outdoors people.

Melissa Rinaldi, a professional artist as of 4 years ago, is finishing up a mural at Harbourside Place. Commissioned by the city, Rinaldi is painting a giant map of Jupiter, as she’s known for her colorful, playful renditions of maps.

Melissa Rinaldi attended Flagler College in St. Augustine where she majored in Political Sciences and worked as a real estate attorney for 8 years. Fours years ago, she moved to Jupiter and began painting, selling her pieces online. As her popularity grew, she now has a studio at 118 Coastal Way and is working on the Harbourside mural.

Earlier this week, famous course designer, Jack Nicklaus and his wife, Barbara, opened the Golden Club Mini Golf Course on Main Street in Jupiter.

The course was celebrated on opening day by locals and even some golf pros who found the course a good challenge, with sophisticated turns and elevations that are one-of-a-kind pro designed. The course is the only putt-putt designed by Jack Nicklaus.

The concession stand on the course serves beer, wine, ice cream, milkshakes and lemonade. A dollar from every ticket sale will benefit the Nicklaus Children’s Healthcare Foundation. Head to the Tuckahoe Mansion, a Great Gatsby-like public mansion located at Indian Riverside Park in Jensen Beach, for Roaring 20’s Casino Night to raise money for Elev8hope.

Elev8hope is a non-profit organization that helps low-income families in Martin County become self-sufficient. You can see more on their website.

The Casino Night will be a fun night of games, drinking, eating and dressing up at the beautiful waterfront Tuckahoe Mansion. “Gambling” on Vegas games like Roulette, Craps, Texas Hold ‘Em and Black Jack will be a fun feature. There will be a 20s photo booth, live and silent auction, buffet and open bar.

In 3 weeks, the German American Club of the Treasure Coast will once again celebrate the famous Bavarian holiday, “Oktoberfest,” with a weekend full of fun.

The German beer “holiday” is a 16 to 18-day folk festival running from late September to the first weekend in October, with nearly 7 million people participating in events around the world.
