Astronomy Nights at The Loggerhead Marinelife Center
One night, each month is an evening event hosted by The Loggerhead Marinelife Center (LMC) called “Astronomy Nights.” Astronomy Nights are beautiful evenings below the stars with the educated and passionate staff of LMC & the Astronomical Society of the Palm Beaches teaching guests about the celestial bodies above and more.
Evenings with Astronomy Nights begin with a seminar led by the Astronomical Society of the Palm Beaches. The discussion will focus on the night sky at that particular time. Guests will get to gaze up with their naked eyes and have the chance to use the professional telescopes and binoculars provided by the Astronomical Society. Not only do the discussions include interesting facts about the night sky and the stars and planets, but it will also cover important information about light pollution. Light pollution is a topic that locals in Palm Beach County take seriously. If you have ever seen sea turtles nesting, you know it’s a glorious sight and protecting their nesting habits from the lights of the surrounding towns is crucial.
The cost of Astronomy Nights at the Loggerhead Marinelife Center is $10 for adults and $5 for children. The next Astronomy Nights event is Friday, February 9th from 6:30 to 9:30pm. For more information or to RSVP please contact Sue Thompson via email: sthompson@marinelife.org.
