Over the next two nights starwatchers can see one of the most spectacular meteor showers in plain sight from Jupiter. The Geminids meteor shower has been in full force this week but the next two nights is when it will be at its peak.  

So, what exactly are the Geminids? The Geminids meteor shower is a unique celestial occurrence that happens when the Earth’s path encounters an asteroid. Most meteor showers come from comets, which give off a beautiful display of bright heads of the comets raining down with a tail of dust, ice and rock. But with the Geminids meteor shower coming from an asteroid, those of us watching from earth will see what looks like a fireworks display in the sky.

World renowned, British artist, Gordon Cheung has his newest exhibition on display at the Ann Norton Sculpture Gardens in West Palm Beach. “Gordon Cheung: New Order Vanitas” is the artist’s most recent curation of inspired floral master pieces which in total he calls “Breaking Tulips.” 

Cheung drew his inspiration from some of the most prized art pieces in the world, 17th Century Dutch and Flemish paintings. Vanitas are still life paintings from the Dutch Golden Age. 

This body of work Cheung has created is called “New Order” which pays homage to “the financial crisis of 2008 and its precursor in western economic history, the “tulip mania” which wiped out many fortunes in 1637. Cheung graduated from the Royal College of Art in 2001 and he exhibits

Beginning tomorrow, December 8th, is the second Biennial “Artists of Art Salon” Exhibition at Montgomery Hall Gallery at the Armory Art Center. The exhibit will feature an incredible array contemporary works of art. Artists of different mediums and styles from all over Southern Florida will have their works on display. 

The “Artists of Art Salon” Exhibition has been known to display the best and most “influential” artists from Palm Beach to Miami.  This year, there will be 24 artists from our area displaying their contemporary pieces. Only the best and freshest ideas and trends of contemporary art are displayed during this exhibit.

A holiday-time event that is unique to Southern Florida is the Boat Parade. All throughout southern Florida’s waterways local boat owners decorate their vessels with millions of lights to celebrate the holiday season. The glistening boats line up and parade throughout the waterways for local spectators to watch. This year is the 45th Annual Boynton Beach Boat Parade. 

The parade will begin on Friday, December 8th at 6:00pm. “This flotilla of brightly-decorated boats will line up at the Lantana Bridge near Old Key Lime House and motor south along the Intracoastal Waterway to the C-15 canal in Delray. For the entire month of December, Downtown Delray Beach will be lit up for all to see with its incredible 100 foot tall Christmas tree and Menorah lighting ceremony.
