The exact day has not yet been pin pointed, but some of the best analysts have been throwing out several predictions as to when the groundbreaking event will occur, the initial public offering (IPO) of Facebook.

If you don’t know much about the company here is a quick break down. Facebook is a social networking company that was established in 2004 by Mark Zuckerberg. Zuckerberg is a 28-year old multi-billionaire ($17.5 billion to be exact). He studied computer science at Harvard University where he and some of his college classmates created “thefacebook.com” which was a website intended to put the students at Harvard in touch with one another and allow them to share photos and information which would help them meet other Harvard students. It was such a hit with the student body at Harvard it quickly spread to include students at Yale, Stanford and Columbia. By 2005, one year after its introduction at Harvard, Facebook had permeated 800 college networks across the nation. In that year, it hit 5 million users and the name was changed from “thefacebook.com” to Facebook. The name that sends chills down your spine.

Facebook has truly been a groundbreaking success and a leading innovation in the world of technology and social networking. It’s hard to imagine that a series of intricate algorithms and complex coding seems so simple from the user end. To give you an idea of just how present Facebook is, in not only the United States but the WORLD, there are over 800 million users of Facebook (that’s right almost 9% of the world’s population has a Facebook) and it is available in 70 different languages! Facebook only has about 3,200 employees worldwide, and is headquartered in Palo Alto, California.

If that is not enough, Facebook has been planning its IPO for several months now. It is going from a privately owned organization to a publicly owned one. Facebook filed the paperwork to go public back in February of this year. The company has not announced a specific date for its IPO; there have been several predictions however. Once Facebook becomes public it is expected to be valued at about $104 billion, which is almost four times more that what Google was worth when it had its own IPO back in 2004, about $24 billion.

Zuckerberg has found a way to provide the world with an identity infrastructure and he will reap the benefits for his ingenious innovation. There have been several books written about Facebook and Mark Zuckerberg and even a movie, the Social Network.

An Imagination for Success: The West Palm Beach Library Foundation.

On May 2, the West Palm Beach Library Foundation hosted an unbelievably successful gala. The gala was held at the Mandel Public Library in West Palm Beach to honor Barbara and Morton Mandel. The Mandel Foundation recently donated $5 million to rear the library system and kick-start its new programs.

The theme of the gala was “Imagine.” Teams of volunteers worked together to convert the library into a wonderland. The children’s area of the library was transformed into the dining room, where the tables were lined with pages from used books and donned handcrafted centerpieces. 150 guests enjoyed a three-course dinner catered by Sandy James Fine Foods, and the Wine Trade Inc. donated the wines for the evening. A beautiful chocolate cake with an image of the Library and the Mandels made a wonderful presentation.

The Honorary Chair of the event was the best selling author, James Patterson. There was also a special guest, Kermit, a therapy dog who is a local celebrity at the West Palm Beach Public Library. Kermit makes weekly appearances at the library to help children with reading.

The West Palm Beach Library Foundation is a wonderful institute that supports the Mandel Public Library of West Palm Beach. The foundation places tremendous focus on supporting the library system and the literacy of our younger generations. The West Palm Beach Library Foundation has been successful at harnessing support, which enhances traditional tax-support. The mission of the foundation is: “To help expand the library's programs, enhance services and strengthen the book and media collections to preserve the past, empower lives today and build for the future”. For more information, visit The West Palm Beach Public Library.

The West Palm Beach Library Foundation, a 501(c) 3 organization and independent from the City of West Palm Beach, was formed to support the Mandel Public Library of West Palm Beach. The Foundation, free of any political process or influence, will secure financial and in-kind donations to enhance programs, services, collections and technology that the city’s reasonable operating budget cannot encompass.

If you haven’t made your way over to the Sailfish Marina on Singer Island, add it to your list of things to do in South Florida! The Sailfish Marina has something for everyone and for all ages. Anyone who has visited the Sailfish Marina can describe the scenery: the aquamarine waters brimming with tropical fish, a myriad of million dollar yachts, and picturesque docks overlooking Peanut Island and the famous Palm Beach Island. The Sailfish Marina also boasts a great open-air restaurant, a ship store and even a resort.

Every Thursday night at the Sailfish Marina is the Sunset Celebration. This tropical evening always begins at 6 pm and is free to enter. Lining the seawall are local artists and vendors. You will see a wide range of art that has been handcrafted by local Floridians, from sea glass jewelry, silver works, hand carved wooden sculptures, pottery, paintings and more. For those who enjoy classic Floridian cuisine, the Sailfish Marina restaurant sets up vendors along the docks that offer conch fritters, grouper dogs, and island cocktails. A steel drum band and talented guitarists often grace the Sunset Celebration. The Sunset Celebration is a weekly occurrence and is a favorite for residents of Singer Island! If you haven’t experienced the Sunset Celebration, give it a try this Thursday from 6pm to 9pm with free admission. It is a perfect night along the water to spend with friends or family!

The World’s Number One Golfer-Rory McIlroy Finds a Home on The Loxahatchee River in Jupiter, Florida!

Rory McIlroy is already considered a golf legend at the young age of 23. He began his practice at the age of 2, in his home country of Ireland. McIlroy learned his craft following his father, Gerry McIlroy, a good golfer himself and from that moment on he was “hooked”. By the age of 15, in 2005, McIlroy won both the West of Ireland Championship and the Irish Close Championship becoming the youngest to ever win these titles. By 2006, he won the European Amateur Tour and with several wins andchampionships underneath his belt he continued his climb to the top.

McIlroy has played among the world’s most revered golfers, including Tiger Woods, Phil Mickelson, Lee Westwood and KeeganBradley. In 2011, he took the title as the U.S. Open champion, which was held at the Congressional Country Club in Bethesda, Maryland. Just a few months ago in March right here in Palm Beach Gardens at the PGA National Resort and Spa, Rory won the Honda Classic, where he shot 4-under-par 66 in the morning launching his name near the top of the leaderboard again. He held a consistent lead in the final day but Tiger Woods was hot on his trail and earned a close second. McIlroy shot a 12-under overall, 2 strokes less than Woods. After this huge win, McIlroy surpassed Luke Donald and is now the world’s number one golfer. Some of the other accomplishments McIlroy has made in the past year include a win at the Hong Kong Open on the European Tour, he finished as a runner-up at the Abu Dhabi Championship, a second place finish at the WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship and he finished in the top 10 of his past 11 tournaments. Rory McIlroy may be 23 years old but he has shown a tremendous amount of promise, skill, dedication and pure raw talent as a professional golfer!

Although McIlroy is a native Irishman and still calls it his home, he has found a second residence on Jupiter’s Loxahatchee River. After his win at the Honda Classic, Rory joined the prestigious Bear’s Club, where often works out, practices his game and enjoys his time.

Green Homes Save Owners Cash in Long Run

With Earth Day on the minds of many homeowners, the idea of reducing their carbon footprint of everyday household living now tops the priority list – primarily for feel-good reasons. They want to reduce global warming by recycling more and using less, and that’s all good. But industry experts say there are “green” reasons to go green, in addition to the altruistic ones. Because saving money is a major motivator, those experts have revealed some of the penny-pinching perks homeowners can expect on their way to saving the planet.

Reduce Utility Bills

The electric and water bills come in every month, and in the summertime, they can be record-breaking. Upgrading home appliances and taking care to insulate and protect them can help to reduce kilowatts and gallons. Try installing a tankless heater for home-water use or insulating the existing tank. Also, insulating piping can bring down costs. As for the air-conditioner that keeps everyone cool and comfortable, it needs tender-loving care, as well. Investing in annual maintenance of the unit will provide a good return on investment by ensuring the system is running well and is clean and well-filtrated. The addition of weatherstripping around doors and windows also can save dollars by keeping that hot and humid air where it belongs – outside.

Boost Home Equity

Realtors say green homes have more value than nongreen homes because of their appeal to buyers. And if a home is valued higher, it could be reflected in the appraisal price. That could lead to a boost in home equity. Statistics show that an annual decrease of $1 in a home’s utility bill because of environmental improvements will result in up to a $25 increase in its value. Do the math; it adds up to a significant amount.

Hot Property

Green homes on the market have been proven to sell faster than their less-energy-saving counterparts. 2) Today’s buyers will put a green home on the top of their list, Realtors say, adding that homes with solar panels, low-flush toilets or a composting system will sell twice as fast as homes without such features. About the author: Sherry Ajluni is a specialist in Alpharetta real estate in Georgia. She is very knowledgeable and is able to assist her clients with both buying and selling homes in Alpharetta.
