South Florida residents should be aware of more restrictive measures announced Thursday by President Biden as the Omicron variant of COVID-19, has been detected in the United States. New regulations are just continuations of what people who have been traveling internationally.

Starting next week, all travelers entering the U.S., regardless of their vaccination status or nationality, must provide proof of a negative COVID-19 test within one calendar day of their departing flight. Previously, a negative test administered up to three days before boarding a flight was considered valid. Biden has also extended the current rule mandating mask-wearing on airplanes, trains, buses, and at airports which were scheduled to expire in January to mid-March.

The upscale Tex-Mex restaurant, Cactus Grille and Tequila Bar is coming to the boundary line between Palm Beach Gardens and Jupiter. The eatery will take over the former Burger Bar space at the Donald Ross Village Plaza. Barrel of Monks Brewing is located at 1141 South Rogers Circle, in Boca Raton.  They brew Belgium beer right here in Palm Beach County.  Several years ago, this group of friends started traveling to Belgium to see how their favorite beers were brewed.  The friends started brewing for themselves and never looked back. Palm Beach County COVID-19 statistics recap: 

  • Vaccinations began in Florida on December 14, 2020. There are roughly 22.2 million residents.
    • 2,266,723 people have received the first dose in FL.
    • 2,791,216 people have completed the series (i.e. received the 2nd dose of Maderna or Pfizer or single dose of J&J) in FL.
    • PBC has vaccinated 133,219 (first dose only) people; 250,042 have completed the series. 
  • Florida reported an increase in new cases, but PBC was down:
    • 32,088 new cases in FL up from 31,692 the prior week; up 1.24%
    • 2,265 new cases in PBC down from 2,577 the prior week; down 12% 
  • PBC 7-day moving average of new cases declined to 317 from 362 last week. 
  • PBC 7-day test positivity rate declined to 5.6%…

There is a rich history substantiating the Town of Jupiter as a favorite destination that dates back to the Celestial Railroad of the late 1880’s. The Celestial Railroad line was just 7.5 miles long. The railroad had once served as the last link for travelers to Lake Worth. After boating down the Indian River, they would take the train to the head of Lake Worth in Juno where they would once again board a boat for destinations further in South Florida. In 1893, the Celestial Railroad advertised a “Grand Tour” ride for $114.95!
