According to NewHomeSource.com, a new home construction search engine, buyers are looking for 10 things in their home search. Decor, efficiency and size all made the list- here are the features house hunters want:

1. An Open-Concept

Buyers are looking for high ceilings, spacious rooms and a flowing floor plan. This will most likely put them in a newer home.

2. Smaller Houses

Oversized homes are expensive to cool and maintain. Buyers don't want to end up paying for more than they need.

3. Outdoor Living

Move-up buyers are getting serious about backyard features. Kitchens, fireplaces, and plenty of social space are high on the list of wants outdoors.

4. Neutral Decor

It's best to keep it simple when it comes to selling a home. Allow guests to picture themselves living there with their own style.

5. A Modern Kitchen

The heart of the home and center of social gatherings, buyers want a fully equipped kitchen designed not only to cook but also to impress. We're talking hardwood cabinets, quartz countertops, industrial lighting fixtures and state-of-the-art appliances.

6. Community Amenities

Many new home communities are being built with club houses, playgrounds, biking trails and more. Buyers are looking for a community that is planned out for everyone.

7. Going Green

Energy efficiency is a must for current house hunters which is another reason newer homes are of choice.

8. Organized Storage Options

Walk-in closets and built-in storage are necessary for growing families.

9. Energy-Efficient Appliances

HVAC (heating, ventilation and cooling equipment) and appliances that are energy and cost efficient are important to all homeowners. New homes are 30 percent more energy efficient than those 10-20 years old.

10. A Big Garage

Two car garages aren't enough anymore; most buyers are now wanting three for the extra space.
