Despite Hurricane Sandy, vigil was maintained at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier.  The United States Army handed out the above photo on Monday morning, October 29, 2012, in the face of Hurricane Sandy.  The photo was taken before Arlington National Cemetery closed because of the storm.   The U.S. Army’s 3rd. Infantry Regiment has kept continuous watch over the marker in Northern Virginia since 1948 without ever missing a second!

The marker memorializes an unknown World War I soldier who was laid to rest in 1921.  Frequently, visitors overlooked the marker and stepped upon it or set up picnic blankets on top of it.  The military eventually stationed a guard at the site.  Soldiers who stand guard at the memorial undergo nine months of synchronized…

The Palm Beach Gardens Recreation & Parks Division will make a splash Oct. 27 when it sponsors the fourth-annual Family Pumpkin Dive.

Those who want to take home a traditional orange gourd in time for Halloween are invited to come to the Aquatic Complex at 4404 Burns Road at 3 p.m. to dive in and claim a pumpkin. There will be 100 pumpkins available.

Participants are welcome to carve and decorate their jack o’lanterns-to-be before taking them home.

 Housing Prices Are Up 8%

South Florida home values were up nearly 8% in the third quarter of the year from the same time in 2011!  They are expected to outperform the national price hikes through 2013 according to the online real estate firm Zillow (www.zillow.com) . Three counties in Florida (Palm Beach, Broward, and Miami-Dade) are forecasted to experience a 3.8 percent rise in value over the next year compared to a national increase of 1.7 percent, as reported by Zillow on October 23, 2012.  

Zillow is a Seattle base real estate analysis firm which released its third quarter home value report which included South Florida.

Matisyahu Coming to Jupiter! AEG  LIVE presents Matisyahu live in concert beginning at 6:30 pm, doors open at 5:30pm.  Grammy nominated reggae and alternative rock musician Matisyahu will be headlining Saturday night Halloween Fest at the Seabreeze Amphitheatre.  Other artists to be performing that evening will be The Constellations, Fresh Catch and DJ Lance of Kulcha Shok.

On October 15, 2012, victims’ families of 9/11 were given the opportunity to watch pre-trial hearings in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. Only military installations in New York, New Jersey, Maryland, and Massachusetts were given the opportunity to share the feed via closed circuit television.  The hearings are the first since the May 5th arraignment in which the defendants refused to cooperate.  They have been delayed because one of the defense attorneys was defending a man about to be executed in the States, a power outage on the islands’ courthouse postponed the next scheduled proceedings, religious observations, and then Tropical Storm Isaac churned up.  This session is closed to the public.
