SALTWATER SHOWDOWN

South Florida’s Saltwater Showdown competition fishing tournament is quickly approaching. The Mercury/SeaVee Saltwater Showdown is the final leg of Pompano Beach Saltwater Circuit and takes place on August 9th.
In order to qualify for this tournament, teams had to compete in the first two legs of the summer series and prove they were worthy of an entry for the final competition. Only 75 boats received this respected invitation.

This summer tournament is the final opportunity for teams to show their skills in the battle for the Showdown Crown, sponsored by Simrad Electronics. LOGGERHEAD TRIATHLON

The Loggerhead Triathlon is one of the longest continuing triathlons in the state of Florida. Since 1985, triathletes have gathered in Jupiter to enjoy the Oceanside setting, family-friendly atmosphere, and the competition that takes place year after year.

The race takes place on August 2nd, 2014 at 7 a.m.-12 P.m. at Carlin Park in Jupiter, FL which consists of 3/8 mile ocean swim, 13 mile bike ride and flat 3.1 mile run. Awards will be given to the top three overall winners.

Florida Lobster season opens with a two-day recreational mini season, which is your chance to catch the biggest tails before the commercial fishermen set their traps. The mini-season opens on Wednesday at 12:01 a.m. and there are many clues that there will be more scuba divers and snorkelers chasing the tasty crustaceans than ever before. According to the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, a total of 121,181 annual lobster permits were purchased from July 2013-June 2014, an increase of nearly 30% from last year. The competitive advantage is minimized by the fact that as many as 50,000 other divers invade the state's reefs during this intense 48 hours.

ANYTHING THAT FLOATS REGATTA RACE

The Annual Wacky Boat race, Anything that Floats Regatta race, in Key Largo is a half mile dash through a buoyed course in Blackwater Sound form Key Largo’s Caribbean Club to Sundowners and is set for August 16, 2014.

The organizers of this wacky boat race encourage the crew to re-use, recycle and redevelop floatable items found around the house to build their boats. Homemade vessels of materials and you never know what trashy items will be combined such as, buckets, pool noodles, PVC Pipe etc. to build some type of floating device for the Anything that Floats regatta race.

Prizes are awarded for the best costumed crew, most creative vessel, fastest boat, and the vessel containing the most participants that still floats at the finish line.

OFFSHORE- Fishing in general has been spotty offshore. Dolphins are scattered around; but exactly where, is anybody’s guess right now! As usual, look for working birds, rips, weed lines, or floating debris to find dolphin.

“The Ledge” which is located east of Juno Pier at 130’ depth, is full of fish right now such as Bonita, sharks, and blue runners, which are around in big numbers from Jupiter to Broward Inlets in 100-150' of water. Along with the hot edge fishing there have big Mutton that hang under schooling fish like Kings that wait for scraps to fall down to the sea floor.
