The City of West Palm Beach is working to develop innovative ideas to maintain community bonds this Summer—one of which is a weekly drive-in movie.

The movies will play at both Dreher Park and Currie Park throughout August.

The current schedule is:

  • August 8: Despicable Me 3 (PG) - Dreher Park

  • August 15: Grease (PG) - Currie Park

  • August 22: Sonic the Hedgehog (PG) - Dreher Park

  • August 29: 50 First Dates (PG-13) - Currie Park

More dates and movies will be announced at a later time, the city said.

Gates will open at 6 p.m. with the movies set to start at 7 p.m.

Palm Beach Gardens is a city in northern Palm Beach County that is home to roughly 56,300 residents and is a principal city of the Miami metropolitan area. The city has a total area of 55,000 square miles and roughly two tenths of a mile features water.

Prior to becoming a city in 1969, Palm Beach Gardens was primarily cattle ranches and pine forests with swamp lands to the west. In 1959, the land was purchased by John D. MacArthur and he announced his plan to develop 4,000 acres and build homes for 55,000 people. The little beach town of Hobe Sound has quite a few interesting features and tales you may never have heard of. Here are 10 interesting facts about beautiful Hobe Sound:

1. The town was named after the Native American tribe that resided in the area in the 1600s. The Jobe and Tequesta Indians (hence where the neighboring town of Tequesta also got its name) were discovered when a British cargo ship, The Reformation- carrying sugar, rum, beef, and molasses from Jamaica to New England- sank off the north end of the Jupiter Inlet. Captain Jonathan Dickinson and his crew of 25 men befriended the natives and gave Hobe Sound its name in their honor in 1699.

For the past several years, Martin County officials have been trying to improve the main corridor of Palm City. Now, the project is finally moving forward and hopes to help small businesses.

Palm City is looking to complete a new streetscape project that has been in the making for the past 15 years. The new streetscape hopes to beautify the area and many local businesses are excited about the change.

Construction cones have already been spotted along the Mapp Road for the Town Center Project. Construction started in May and the project hopes to transform the street to create a downtown feel that attracts more businesses and brings more people to the area.

Flagler Museum

The Henry Morrison Flagler Museum, also known as Whitehall, is a Palm Beach landmark that was originally built as a wedding present and winter retreat for Henry Morrison Flagler and his third wife, Mary Lily Kenan. The Martin County School District Board has voted to stay with their original school calendar for the upcoming school year.  Some school board members wanted to push back the start of the school year to August 25th but negotiations with the teacher’s union and the Martin County Education Association were not successful.

Students in Martin County School District will be heading to the classroom for in-person learning on Tuesday, August 11th. Teachers are scheduled to head back to the classroom on Monday, August 3rd.

It raised money for Amber's Animal Outreach, and was a celebration of man's best friend as people from Northern Palm Beach County brought their rescue pups along for the festivities.
