Beach Cleanup!

Posted by Cindy Spee on Wednesday, April 6th, 2016 at 11:29am.

Since August, 2006 an estimated 57,124 pounds of garbage has been removed from our beaches by Friends of Jupiter Beach volunteers. Friends of Jupiter Beach promotes the conservation of our beaches, encourages community awareness, engages in school partnerships, conducts monthly beach cleanups, and provides dog bag boxes at each beach crossover. While most household debris is collected curbside, other areas-such as road right-of-ways and vacant lots tend to collect unsightly, unsanitary debris that will continue to accumulate if not cleaned.

The third Sunday of the month, at 4:00 PM, students from local and neighboring high schools gather at Ocean Cay Park for a beach cleanup. The students are becoming the next generation of environmental leaders and know the importance of preserving Jupiter’s beaches, its’ habitat and marine life for future generations. Students are invited to join the group. As the group grows, they continue to look for other ways to expand their environmental preservation message. After the beach cleanup students gather for volleyball or soccer games and snacks.
