This Saturday volunteers are needed on all Jupiter, Juno, Singer Island, and Stuart area beaches for International Coastal Cleanup 2013. The Ocean Conservancy sponsors the one-day event.  It is a part of a worldwide effort to clean up local beaches, rivers, lakes and canals.  Ocean Conservancy, the world’s largest organization focusing exclusively on the health of the marine environment, has sponsored this event for the past 27 years.

In 2012, more than 500,000 volunteers picked up 10 million pounds of trash during the 2012 International Coastal Cleanup.  For nearly three decades, this has been the largest volunteer effort to keep our ocean and waterways clean.  The cleanup volunteers together cover a distance of nearly 18,000 miles, 100 countries, and coastal beaches all over the world.  The most common items found are food wrappers, beverage containers and plastic bags.

Ocean trash and coastal debris are serious pollution problems that affect the health of people, wildlife and local economies.  Help keep our coast clear.  Please volunteer this Saturday.  For more information on local beach cleanup’s please visit keeppbcbeautiful.org.
