Juno Beach Pier Leading The Responsible Pier Initiative

Posted by Lacey Hagler on Thursday, August 23rd, 2018 at 11:17am.

The Responsible Pier Initiative is a Florida program designed to promote a healthy pier environment for sea turtles and other marine life with the cooperation of fisherman. The three components of the Responsible Pier Initiative include providing first responders with necessary training and resources to effectively respond to sea turtle injuries and strandings, installation of educational signage on fishing piers, and underwater cleaning beneath piers and surrounding areas on a regular basis.

Since Loggerhead Marinelife Center acquired management of the Juno Beach Pier in 2014, it has become an exceptional example for other fishing piers throughout Florida. Launching the pilot program in 2012 in Juno Beach, positive results have already been evident in over 1,300 pounds of debris removed from the ocean floor and 49 sea turtles rescued.

The Juno Beach Pier is located at 14775 U.S. Highway 1, Juno Beach, FL 33408.
