NEW 76,000 SQUARE FOOT SPORTSMAN CENTER “HOOKED” LOCAL STORE OPENING
North Palm Beach is about to be Palm Beach County’s first home to Bass Pro Worldwide Sportsman. After years of effort, the giant retailer has finally landed a “big one”! The former 76,000 square foot Carl’s Plaza, located at 11940 U.S. Highway 1, in North Palm Beach is under contract to the Springfield, MO based sporting goods retailer. The site is just north of PGA Boulevard on US1 conveniently located between Singer Island and Jupiter.
Bass Pro Worldwide Sportsman is a privately held retailer of
hunting, fishing, and outdoor recreation and camping gear. The owner began John L. Morris, began his
career with a fishing section in the back of a liquor store owned by his father
located in Springfield, MO. That small fishing
department sold bait and worms, etc. It became so popular that Bass Pro Shop
was soon incorporated in 1972. A catalog
started being mailed out in 1974 and soon Bass Pro Shops became the largest
mail order sporting goods store in the world!
American Rod and Gun, is an exclusive product of BPS and sold in over
7,000 independent retail stores worldwide.
In 1977, they expanded to the first ready to fish complete boat and
trailer packages with the “bass tracker”.
The first Bass Pro Shops Sportsman’s Warehouse opened in Atlanta,
GA.
Bass Pro Worldwide Sportsman is an intermingling of outdoor retail wonderland products and an open-air nirvana for fishing, hunting, and camping aficionados. Other locations feature indoor waterfalls, boating displays, giant aquariums, and lifelike taxidermy.
Two additional stores are set to open in Florida in 2013, including Port St. Lucie and Tallahassee. Plans for 2014 include expansion into Tampa and Jacksonville.
For northern Palm Beach County residents who love fishing, boating, and outdoor living, Bass Pro Worldwide will be a welcome neighbor to the community!
