Uber is a private mobile transportation network app that allows consumers to request transportation from drivers.  Founded in 2009, Uber has expanded its service to 53 countries and over 200 cities worldwide.  It is like a cab service but the drivers use their own personal cars.

Uber is now available in South Florida. The ride sharing company launched its app-based service in Miami last summer.  It has expanded its service and is available in the West Palm Beach and Jupiter areas.  Prices are averaging 25% less than taxi’s. After requesting a ride, a photo of the driver will flash up on your smartphone, letting you know who the driver is and the make of vehicle. 

The service allows users to tap the app on their smart phone to call for a vehicle, which can be anything from a black car to a regular car, in just minutes. Uber says all of its driver partners must undergo the company’s rigorous screening process, including passing a stringent background check, a driving history check and ongoing quality controls.
