The annual Connoisseurs Garden Tour has taken place for the past 14 years in Palm Beach County. Seven homes throughout the region open their private gardens for the public to enjoy a beautiful display of plants, flowers, fruits, butterflies and birds.

The tour happens on Mother's Day weekend and has two homes in Palm Beach Gardens and two in Wellington and the other three in West Palm, Lake Worth and Delray Beach. The gardens are open from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. on Saturday and 11 a.m.-4 p.m. on Sunday. The cool thing about the tour is you go at your own pace and sequence.

Find inspiration as you see all the fascinating and spectacular things some of these people do with their gardens. Here is a little bit about them:

•Maria Cotts, 7339 155 Place N., Palm Beach Gardens. This is a 2-acre orchid-lover's heaven that's partly covered with creeping ficus and large beds of 40 different types of bromeliads.

•John & Virginia Rosser, 7085 154th Court N., Palm Beach Gardens. This home has become a sanctuary for birds, butterflies and bees on 2+ acres with a beautiful garden.

•Tom and Kimberly Helms, 9443 Granite Ridge Ln., Wellington. A lovely Mediterranean-style home with succulents, cactus and bromeliads lined with rocks. Some plants grow up along the walls creating a vertical garden.

•Fred & Biddy Fishback, 4939 125th Ave., Wellington. This gorgeous 10-acre property is lined with massive Royal Palms and tropical foliage. The front yard is very large and includes a coy-filled pond and dazzling waterfall.

• Greg & Loren Slaydon, 807 Avon Rd., West Palm Beach. A historic home that has an appealing surprise- flamingos roam around the spacious front yard and in sanctuaries around the property.

•Jim Trinchini & Nancy Byrne, 4841 Dolphin Dr., Lake Worth. There are many smaller specialty gardens on this property that make you feel like you're in a fairytale. The tour starts at "Story Island," a garden of fairies and other mythical creatures surrounded by flowering archways and flowing water installations.

•Mitch & Gina Sinberg, 605 Wiggin Rd., Delray Beach. This garden is green and friendly with sitting areas throughout the property and a calm, relaxing atmosphere.
