The official start of the right whale calving season starts this Saturday, November 15. From the beginning of November, right whales have been migrating south to the Florida coast to give birth to their young, where the water temperature is warmer. During the time from November to April, the right whales will migrate between the feeding areas from New England and Canada and their calving area off the Florida coast.

A festival is taken place this weekend in Jacksonville, Florida to rejoice the yearly return of the endangered North Atlantic right whales and to celebrate the beginning of their reproducing season. Since there are only about 500 right whales that still exist today, Right Whale Festival is a fun, outdoor event for all ages to expand awareness of the threats theses whales face every day such as accidental ship strikes and entanglement of fishing gear. The event will have live music, good, art, and photography located at the Sea Walk Pavilion from 10:00 am to 4:00 p.m. – Free Admission.
