As anyone who lives in Palm Beach County knows, our beloved sea turtles are actively protected.  Raising awareness during nesting season is crucial to their survival.  The sea turtles recently received a tremendous amount of exposure this nesting season thanks to a series of events known as “Art Arribada”.

An “arribada” is a large aggregation of sea turtles coming ashore together to nest at the same time and the same place. The Gardens Mall, Palm Beach Gardens, and PNC Bank collaborated with Loggerhead Marine Life Center, Juno Beach, to raise funds for the center and important environmental programs. On display were fiberglass sea turtle sculptures, each created by students of participating high schools in Palm Beach County.  They were to transform the unpainted fiberglass sea turtle into a work of art (36” high x 30” long x 18” deep).  The completed sculptures would then be on display at The Gardens Mall to be voted on by the public. The top three schools with the most votes were awarded cash prizes.

Congratulations to the talented students and art faculty of South Tech Academy (1st place), Seminole Ridge Community High School (2nd ),Palm Beach Gardens Community High School (3rd)!

The Gardens Mall hosted a private cocktail party and auction for the Loggerhead Marine Life Center.  Over 100 supporters, including Waterfront Properties and Club Communities oceanfront condominium specialist and sea turtle lovers Betsy Munson, Isabelle Stevenson, and Jeanette Horn, helped to raise $25,000 for programs at the Loggerhead Marine Life Center.   Feel free to email the ladies at Waterfront Properties for more information at INFO@wfpcc.com.
