Scholarship Billfish Tournament in Fort Lauderdale
Nova Southeastern University (NSU), associated with Marine Industries Association of South Florida (MIASF), is happily presenting the 2015 Fort Lauderdale Billfish Tournament. The yearly fishing tournament is developing a ritual and is also continuously showing the huge commitment and assuring to keep putting efforts forth to save our stimulating seas.

Because our oceans are a huge part of our Earth and is of true natural beauty, amazing wonders, and still such a major mystery. The oceans provide us with an abundance of food, conveyance, recreation, healing medical sources and plenty of energy, those being only some of the benefits. “Yet, oceans are suffering from our activities too; our land practices cause agricultural run-off, sewage, and litter to end up in the oceans daily and there is now so much trash in the ocean that we've created garbage vortexes where all the trash heads to. Damage to our oceans is damage to our livelihoods, well-being, and nourishment; damage to our oceans lacks respect for our oceans' intrinsic value. As individuals, we can do more to ensure that the oceans are cared for and respected.”

The Billfish Tournament in Fort Lauderdale, Florida is to form more conservation, recognize scholars and have fun for a chance to win cash prizes. The fun-filled fishing competition and recognition contest starts off with a Kick-off Party and Captain’s Meeting celebrating on Friday, February 27th at The NSU Center of Excellence for Coral Reef Ecosystems Research from 6:00 p.m. - 10:00 p.m. Then, an early start at 6:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 28th in Bahia Mar, on Seabreeze Boulevard in Fort Lauderdale, where the fishing tournament, the weigh-in and a celebratory awards reception will take place.

“All event proceeds fund scholarships for students at NSU’s Oceanographic Center for studies on fisheries, coral reefs, and the marine ecosystems at local, national, and international levels. Participants and sponsors of the Tournament event have generated scholarships to our Ph.D. students. Nova Southeastern Unviersity will announce the new scholarship recipient at this year’s Captain’s party!”
