SUMMER NATURE CAMP in HOBE SOUND
At The Hobe Sound Nature Center in Hobe Sound, Florida, the non-profit association is devoted to ecological attentiveness and educating others. The center offers plenty of workshops, camps and turtle walks all including tons of educational opportunities to benefit from.
A highly successful program during the months of summer held since 1973 is the environmental camp for students’ ages 6 to 12. The programs excellent standing has drawn students from over three counties and even youngsters visiting relatives in the area. The program consists of field trips, arts and crafts, interpretive programs, hands-on experiences and other activities enable the participants to enjoy their summer while learning about Florida's wildlife and what they can do to protect it.
“Another summertime program begun in 1982 is nighttime interpretive "sea turtle walks," held from late May to mid-July. These walks begin with a presentation in the Center's classroom and end with a visit to the Hobe Sound Public Beach to witness the egg-laying of the threatened loggerhead sea turtle. A special permit is issued to the Nature Center by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection in order to provide people with this unique opportunity to observe this natural phenomenon. The 20 to 22 walks now offered each summer are always booked way in advance and demand for these programs can never be satisfied.”
The Hobe Sound Nature Center, Inc. wishes to remain in the forefront of environmental education. The Hobe Sound Nature Center’s 2015 Summer Environmental Camp is intended to familiarize your youngster with the natural world around them. The one week summer camp will educate with live native wildlife presentations, nature crafts and games, netting and more are included in the one week program.
The camp is open to all students from ages 6 to 12 and will be held Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 12 noon.
