David is a city in Broward County just twenty-five miles north of Miami. Prior to European colonization, the Tequesta were the native people of what is now Davie. Campsites and graves have been found in Davie, the oldest dating back 5,000 to 7,000 years. The landscape and terrain were, and still is, ideal for plants, including orchids.

Live orchids and orchid photography are on display through an exhibit at Flamingo Gardens until May 8, 2022. Flamingo Gardens is located at 3750 South Flamingo Road, Davie. West Palm Beach houses a botanical treasure, Mounts Botanical Garden, 531 North Military Trail is temporarily closed due to the COVID-19 virus, however the garden still grows on.  This is the oldest and largest public garden with over 2,000 species of tropical and subtropical plants from six continents, including plants native to South Florida, herbs, tropical fruit trees, exotic trees, tropical fruit, and a variety of palms. 

The garden was named in remembrance of Marvin “Red” Mounts.  Mounts served Palm Beach County Farmers and Palm Beach County Extension for over 40 years. He created and oversaw the collection of fruit trees to aid in generating extra food resources that might help people overcome vitamin deficiencies. By 1964 there were 69
