Did you know that manatees are Florida’s marine mammal, and we proudly go to great lengths to protect them? Manatees are large, marine herbivoros known as sea cows.

The preservation of this endangered marine mammal is crucial, and it starts with community awareness. Throughout the colder months, manatees are drawn to warm-water outflows. They can’t survive in water that is less than 60 degrees Fahrenheit. Here in Palm Beach County, visit the Manatee Lagoon facility located at Florida Power and Light, 6000 North Flagler Drive, West Palm Beach. This is an ecological-discovery center offering a live webcam and it’s one of the top places to watch manatees.

The history of the Ann Norton Sculpture Gardens is a romantic one.  A wealthy industrialist, Ralph Norton, and head of the Acme Steel Company in Chicago, retired in 1939. He and his wife had acquired quite an art collection over the years.  They decided to move to West Palm Beach, Florida.

Upon moving to South Florida, the Norton’s decided to share their art collection with the community. The Norton Gallery and School of Art was built on their property. The location of gallery and school was linked to the early pioneers. Today that location is known as Pioneer Park, named for the early Lake Worth pioneers that gathered there on occasion.

Mr. Norton contracted to re-design their home and later had a special building designed to house the

The Norton Museum of Art celebrates its 75th anniversary this year.  To commemorate the diamond anniversary the museum is expanding!  The Norton opened in 1941 and is globally known for its notable permanent collection featuring American Art, Chinese Art, Contemporary Art, European Art and Photography. Within the collection of masterpieces of 19th century and 20th century painting and sculpture, include works by such contemporary masters as Matisse, Miró, Monet, Picasso, O’Keeffe, and Pollock.
