PGA golfer Ernie and Liezel Els envisioned this day for over six years as a one of a kind facility to serve the educational, medical, recreational and therapeutic needs of children on the autism spectrum. “I think we are succeeding in delivering something very special – a center that will be a game-changer for the autism community, Mrs. Els said. “We hope it will serve as an example and an inspiration to others of what should be available to those on the spectrum.”
The facility is located on off Limestone Creek Road in Jupiter, Florida, 150 students’ enrolled and stepped foot on the lovely campus that sits on 26 acres today! This friendly environment that was achieved has 40 classrooms, a media-equipped auditorium, sensory floors and visual cues for easy navigation and an emphasis on natural light. The Els Center for Excellence serves ages 3 to 14.
In January 2016, the facility has planned to welcome the recreational section with the goal of putting a three hole golf course and putting green. “The greenspace will house the #GameON Autism Golf initiative created by PGA Tour player and 2008 Honda Classic Champion known as “The Big Easy.” It provides the students will a noncompetitive way to enjoy golf while developing communication skills, giving every chance to succeed.
