This week the PGA Tour returns to the Big Apple for the start of the FedEx Cup Playoffs. For the first time since 2009, the post season for the PGA Tour kicks off at Liberty National Golf Club, just across the river from New York City and the famed Manhattan skyline.
While the course has gone under a major renovation since 2009, one thing remains the same as the top golfers on tour return, and that’s the points leader. Just like in 2009, world number one Tiger Woods enters with the top spot in the FedEx Cup rankings.
The Jupiter Island resident comes into the playoffs with a 786 point lead over Matt Kuchar and will look to strengthen that lead even more with a strong performance at The Barclays. Just like in 2009, Woods will try and maintain his lead and win his third FedEx Cup championship.
The last time Woods won the FedEx Cup championship, and the $10 million prize that goes with it, was that 2009 campaign when he started with a tie for second at the very venue he will be returning to this weekend.
Just like in 2009, Woods enters the playoffs with five regular season wins and hopes to end this season the same way he ended his 2009 campaign. For complete coverage of the FedEx Cup playoffs, visit www.pgatour.com.
