Boating and fishing are some activities Florida residents get to enjoy year-round. Deep Sea Fishing is a sport filled with adrenaline; the age-old battle of man vs. sea creature. Whether you're brand new or are a pro angler, there's no doubt you'll experience the anticipation of a monster bite. Once the fish is hooked, all the fun begins. Florida has some massive fish that aren't easy to take on, especially the Atlantic Blue Marlin, which can weigh more than 2,000 pounds. Reeling in the catch of the day could end up being the challenge of a lifetime, but there's no feeling like finally seeing what you pull up from beneath the waves. In Florida, you're bound to catch something worth being proud of. More world-record-breaking fish are caught in the state than anywhere else in the world. Here are some of the common fish to catch.

1. Amberjack 
 
Amberjack are generally found around reefs and offshore shipwrecks. They are the biggest member of the Jack family and weigh around 40 pounds.
 
2. Cobia
 
 
Cobia are a dark grey/brown fish with a white underside. They can easily be mistaken for a shark in the water. The average cobia grows to around 100 pounds and 5 feet long. They're good to eat fresh or smoked.
 
3. Dolphin (Mahi Mahi)
 
Dolphin, or mahi, are beutiful fish and very common to catch offshore around the warm waters of the area. They're brightly colored blue, green, and yellow. They usually weigh in at about 30 pounds and are also really good for eating a variety of ways. 
 
4. Grouper
 
Grouper are some of the most popular fish to catch in Florida. They tend to hangout close to the bottom or around reefs. They're usually a grey color with brown or black spots. The lighter the color grouper, the less it usually weighs but they can grow to be hundreds of pounds. Grouper are tasty served fried or blackened. 
 
5. Marlin
 
The Blue Marlin are the largest fish you'll probably catch in the Atlantic. They commonly reach 11 feet in length and can weigh over a ton, a true trophy-sized fish. 
 
6. Sailfish
 
Sailfish get their name from their awesome dorsal fin. While the body of the fish looks similar to a Marlin, the fin will always differentiate. Sailfish are also a little smaller than Marlin, with the average length being 7 feet. 
 
7. Snapper
 
Snapper are fun to catch because they put up a hefty fight. Colors and sizes of snapper vary but most are red or yellow and can weight up to about 40 pounds. They're also really good eating.  
 
8. Swordfish
 
Swordfish are found out in deep water. The usual catch is close to 200 pounds. They can be blue, grey, purple, or brown. 
 
9. Tarpon
 
Tarpon are a favorite to catch. They put up an immense fight and can leap 10 feet out of the water. They usually weigh in around 50 pounds and can be found inshore and offshore. 
 
10. Barracuda 
 
Barracuda are fast fish, reaching speeds of 40 mph. They hit hard from the first bite but they get worn out easier than other fish. They are a trohpy fish for sport fishermen, averaging about 6 feet and 40 pounds.
