The customary way to carve a pumpkin is on your kitchen table, divers seem to reason that is too easy. For a more challenging effort, consider taking a stab at a pumpkin under the crystal blue waters of South Florida.  Better yet, take a trip to Key Largo for the Underwater Pumpkin Carving Contest, which is hosted by Amy Slate’s Amoray Dive Resort on October 19th!

The Underwater Pumpkin Carving Contest is at Mile marker 104.5 bayside, the contest is underway at 8:30 a.m. and the ship will take the diving contestants 30 feet beneath the ocean surface of the Florida Keys National Marine Sanctuary.

The theme for this year’s best pumpkin carving is: “Your Favorite Fish.” Divers will work in a buddy system, pay $85 to enter for the two-tank, two-location dive, pumpkins, and weights and snorkel gear. Carving tools are not available, so divers must bring their own.
