Fishing Report 8.15.14

OFFSHORE:
Wahoo- the beautiful, tasty, and lightning-fast ocean fish have been showing up in good numbers around Palm Beach and Broward County. Wahoo’s are plentiful in Florida waters this time of year, with the best bite always occurring around the full moon in August. The greatest chance for a wahoo good time is to fish early morning or evening time of the day. Whether you are trolling (high speed and slower speeds) or live baiting for the wahoo be sure to try and get the bait down suspended below the surface, this will help get the baits down in the wahoo’s zone and will help keep a Bonita or two away.
If you are looking for a non-stop hooking action, the 120’ ledge is the place to go right now. Snapper fishing has been day to day, with some nice Mutton Snappers hanging around 80’-90’ of water off of Jupiter. The best way to reel up a Mutton Snapper is with fresh sardines fished on a slide rig.

INSHORE:
Catch and Release snook fishing remains the best game inshore. Try to fish the first of the outgoing tide for the best luck with the snook and low light periods or nighttime are the ideal to look for the linesiders.  Also, look for little Tarpon that are active and rolling early and late in the day. Small live baits and shrimp are good choices to cast at the rolling baby silver kings.

SURF/PIER:
As August ticks away from us, stay on the lookout for the mullet to start showing up on the beach. The finger mullet will be the first to start trickling down the beach. The snook and tarpon will be the first to find the schools and then the jacks, sharks and bluefish shouldn’t be far behind.

Get ready for a "Wahoo Good Time" this weekend before the kids go back to school!
