WILL GROWING OPPOSITION DERAIL THE TRAIN?
Will All Aboard Florida be stopped in their tracks? New high-powered group formed to stop the train. The recently formed Citizens Against Rail Expansion (CARE FL) has joined the campaign to combat the proposed passenger trains and increased freight trains running through our area. CARE FL hired a highly skilled Washington D.C. attorney with experience in fighting rail projects.
“The more opposition the better,” said a K.C. Taylor, a representative from Not All Aboard. Not All Aboard collected nearly 20,000 signatures on their online petition and in person. “I’m excited there’s another group that’s going to spread awareness.”
A recent letter to Governor Rick Scott outlining the environment, quality of life, and safety related concerns of the communities of the Treasure Coast because of the increased rail traffic has generated a firestorm of publicity. Jupiter, and the surrounding areas are District 32, and our Senator Joe Negron has pledged his support of the efforts of CARE FL, to fight the negative impact of a second passenger and increased freight line.
Meanwhile, All Aboard Florida has temporarily put on the brakes on the West Palm to Orlando leg. That part still needs federal approval and a federal loan for the construction of “double tracking”. All Aboard Florida officials announced last week that they would start with Miami-West Palm Beach.
CARE FL will have a website up and running shortly.
