As Thanksgiving approaches there is a lot, we feel, that we must remember. Who is bringing what, when everyone is coming, and when we should start thawing the turkey. But setting those more pragmatic considerations aside, here are three more, genuinely important things, we hope you remember.

Put Your Phone Away

This one can be hard to follow. But very important. You never know who might be there next year and who won’t. It is important to take this time that you have together today and make it the best time you will ever spend with them. Busy schedules get in our way when we try to see family members. Your phone can wait this time. Forget about posting on Instagram about how thankful you are for your family (most of whom aren’t even on Instagram) and instead tell them in-person!

Thank The Cook

Make sure you sincerely thank whoever cooks for you on Thanksgiving. If ever that person is you, you will surely come to understand and appreciate just how much work and preparation really goes into making a Thanksgiving Day feast.

Get Along

We all have family members who are argumentative or notorious for saying controversial things. But there is nothing worse than getting into a heated political debate while the turkey is getting cold. It’ll be good for you to forget about politics for a day and focus on what you have to be thankful for.
