9/11 Heroes Run

The 9/11 Heroes 5K Run is an event uniting communities beyond U.S. borders, in which we remember the sacrifices of the heroes of 9/11 honoring veterans, first responders, civilians and military personnel and families of the fallen. 

The run takes place all over the world, on or near September 11th, and are organized completely by local community volunteers. The nearest run will be in Palm City on September 3rd at Cummings Library. It's a great opportunity for the community to gather and personally thank local veterans, first responders and their families in a fun, family-friendly environment.

According to their website, the run was started in 2007 by family of fallen 1st Lt. Travis Manion. It was a grassroots run in his hometown of Doylestown, Pennsylvania, with 300 runners. "The 9/11 Heroes Run now has more than 50 race locations, presence in 38 different states across the country, and unites more than 50,000 people yearly to celebrate our heroes and spread awareness. Race proceeds are used to directly support the Travis Manion Foundation's mission to empower our nation's veterans and families of our fallen heroes to develop character in future generations in order to strengthen communities. In select locations, a portion of race proceeds are granted back to a local nonprofit partner whose mission is also to empower our heroes. We believe the best way to honor the fallen is by challenging the living."

Online registration for the race is now closed but walk-up registration is available the day of. The cost is $35 per person or $115 for families. Active duty military and first responders get a 10% discount off registration with ID.
