The Allianz Championship gets under way this Friday at Broken Sound in Boca Raton and is headlined by eight members of the World Golf Hall of Fame.

The first full field event of the 2016 season will feature 77 golfers, headlined by local Boca Resident and 2010 winner and World Golf Hall of Famer Bernhard Langer. The other Hall of Fame members in the field are Jupiter resident Nick Price, Hale Irwin, Tom Kite, Sandy Lyle, Colin Montgomerie, Mark O'Meara and Curtis Strange. In addition to Langher, seven other defending champions will tee it up at Broken Sound this week, including Mike Goodes, Scott Hoch, Tom Lehman, Corey Pavin, Rocco Mediate, Michael Allen, and defending champion Paul Goydos.

"Our field this year rivals any major you're going to see on the PGA TOUR Champions tour this year," said Allianz Championship tournament director Ryan Dillon. "We are really proud of it. The pros have really fallen in love with this golf course and the community."

It's not just Hall of Famers and former winners in the field this week. 2015 Champions Tour Player of the Year Jeff Maggert is in the field as well as former major champions Mark Calcavecchia, Mark Brooks, Todd Hamilton, Lee Janzen, Larry Mize, Jeff Sluman, Bob Tway, and Fuzzy Zoeller.

"The reason they have such a great field is it's a wonderful golf course," Goydos said. "The golf course is as good as we play all year."

The Allianz Championship will signify the official start to the new Charles Schwab Cup Playoffs. Starting in 2016, the PGA Tour Champions will adopt a playoff system almost identical to the PGA Tour. There will be a 3 event playoff culminating at the Tour Championship at Desert Mountain Club in Scottsdale, Arizona on Nov. 7-13.
