A father’s love knows no boundaries, and this story is no exception. Since the summer of 2013, Travis Suit has endured a long distance paddle every year from the Bahamas to Florida in honor of his daughter Piper, and to raise awareness of Cystic Fibrosis.
Known as the Crossing For A Cure, this long-distance stand-up paddle challenge and international race takes paddlers 75 miles across the Gulf Stream from Bimini back to the Florida mainland. Inspired by the incredible health benefits of the ocean for those living with Cystic Fibrosis, a terminal lung disease, the event raises funds to support the Piper’s Angels Foundation, whose mission is to support the lives of families in the Cystic Fibrosis community through heightened awareness, and to provide education, life expanding activities, and urgent financial support.
When Suit’s daughter Piper was diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis at the age of four, he realized the need to get involved in a big picture way.
“I want Piper to be able to make the most of her time while she’s on this planet,” says Suit. “To use every single minute as an empowering one.”
He wanted not only to raise awareness and help fund much-needed programs, but also to prove that no matter what hardships are faced throughout life, perseverance is possible and living life to the fullest is a choice.
Crossing For A Cure takes place on Father’s Day weekend every year, with the next epic paddle on June 15th, 2019.
The 2018 short film about this inspiring story, “Epic Love” by Talia Schizzano, debuts on August 16th at Cinepolis in Jupiter Florida. View the event details here: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/crossing-for-a-cure-2018-short-film-premiere-epic-love-tickets-47740707742
