POSSIBLE BOATER & WATER SAFETY CLASSES in FLORIDA SCHOOLS

No matter how much experience you have out on the waterways, it is always a good decision for all, from novices to mavens, to frequently review the boating safety rubrics before setting off and departing from the dockage.

As young as a teen, it is mandatory to learn the guidelines of the roads before you sit behind the wheel and many believe that same importance should be implemented before taking the controls of the waterways. Just like studying for your driver’s license, it is just as important to have boating safety information and certificates that are required prior to hitting the waterways.  You may not only be protecting yourself with the successful educational courses but you will be protecting other boaters as well.

In Jupiter, Florida, a small fishing and boating community, has been heartbreakingly impacted by the two boys that were recently lost at sea. However, due to the tremendous efforts locally and nationwide, many foundations, such as AustinBlu Foundation and other nonprofit organizations, businesses, safety guards as well as caring individuals, are doing their best to find great habits to share the importance of water/boating safety.

There is a petition going around for Rick Scott, Governor of Florida, indicating that a Boater/Water Safety Class should be an 'Elective' in Schools, especially within the boating communities such as Jupiter and Tequesta, Florida. “We live in a huge boating community where someone can get their boating license at 14 years of age. Drivers Education is offered in school, why not have a boating/water safety class offered in school?” That is what local entities are petitioning.

South Florida has always been known for operating boats, jet skis, swimming, snorkeling, paddle boarding, wakeboarding, fishing basically anything that has to do with the water, we are in! With strong drifts and currents, it is a necessity to learn as much about waters and prepare a good game plan prior to getting out on the water.

The petition is for classes to be set up across the waterfront communities to prevent such tragedy that recently happened to the beloved boys, Austin Stephanoes, Perry Cohen and many others…
