Family-Friendly Fun at Lion Country Safari

Updated on

Lion Country Safari is widely known as Florida’s only drive-through safari, attracting visitors from all around the world and exhibiting over 900 animals. It is a one-stop trip, offering so much more than just animals viewings from inside of a car. There are also paddle boats, a ferry boat side, petting zoo, a merry-go-round, mini-golf, a small water park with slides, ferris wheel, restaurant and gift shop area, dinosaur section, maze, Lory bird feeding exhibit, giraffe feedings, camel rides, and so much more, all in West Palm Beach.

Lion Country Safari allows visitors to get up close and personal with its unique giraffe feeding experience. Visitors travel to the top of a large inclined ramp leading to a circular platform, at which place large bushels of lettuce are sold. The giraffes naturally migrate towards the prospect of food and eat directly out of your hand. This is an amazing experience for kids, who are delighted by the huge black tongues that come darting at them. The Lory bird feeding exhibit is equally as fun, especially for kids. Visitors enter into a special area designated just for the Lorys and then have the option to purchase nectar in small containers. Sensing a snack, the colorful Lorys fly over in flocks, landing anywhere they can, including visitor’s heads, shoulders, and arms, and proceed to drink the nectar from the container. It is a joy to watch the children’s faces light with excitement as they feed their favorite little bird.

Another enjoyable attraction at Lion Country Safari is the newer flying elephant ride, which is similar to the Dumbo ride at Disney World. Kids can choose between a dragon and an elephant and glide high in the skies at their own height control. Directly across from the flying elephant ride is the carousel, featuring many of the different kinds of animals that can be found at Lion Country Safari. Behind that are the paddle boats, which can be operated with an adult through a small lake. When it’s time for lunch or just a quick snack, the Lion Country Safari restaurant is the perfect stop, offering anything from chicken strips to salads to burgers to pizza, as well as chips, ice cream bars, and other snacks. For those with young children, strollers are also available, either in single or double, and they are located at the first gift stop from the entrance of the park. Guests who plan on visiting more than twice a year may benefit from the purchase of an annual pass, which also grants discounts on food and merchandise.
