Celebrate International Calm Day South Florida by unplugging from all your devices and slow down.  Americans live in a hectic and restless society. South Floridians seem to spend countless hours running, from the office or school, to the gym, and home.  This constant pressure adds stress.

The concept of mindfulness is defined as “a mental state achieved by focusing one's awareness on the present moment, while calmly acknowledging and accepting one's feelings, thoughts, and bodily sensations, used as a therapeutic technique.”  One must find a place of peace and complete relaxation.

Studies have shown that practicing mindfulness, even for just a few weeks, can bring a variety of physical, psychological, and social benefits. Some of these benefits extend across many different settings. Mindfulness is good for our minds.  Numerous studies have found that mindfulness increases positive emotions while reducing negative emotions and stress. Mindfulness is good for our bodies. A study found that, after just eight weeks of training, practicing mindfulness meditation boosts our immune system’s ability to fight off illness.

Finding a relaxing place in South Florida is as easy as getting to an organic spa retreat or the beach, and watching the ocean waves break on the shore. Listen to calming meditation guidance or take a walk.  Headspace and Calm are two apps that can bring you to a state of mind/body awareness.  Both are free downloads and have pleasing directed introspection.

Take a deep breath, slow down and relax today.
