NICE Port St. Lucie

When the City of Port Saint Lucie was constructed, its master developer assigned numbers to most of the city's subdivisions as opposed to naming them. To this day, the majority of the neighborhoods in Port St. Lucie are nameless.

That's why city council decided to create the Neighborhood Improvement & Community Engagement (NICE) Program. The goal is to promote vibrant neighborhoods and a high-quality life. It gives residents the chance to join together to name their neighborhoods and enhance them. "The program will help empower communities by giving them a united, collective voice when working with the City on issues, concerns and needs," according to the NICE Program brief.

The first step of NICE is to identify boundaries of the composed 80,000 lots that make up the unnamed communities and have residents suggest and vote on names for their neighborhoods. This is currently being done online here. The new names will be announced at the NICE Day Citywide Block Party on Saturday, February 17th. Once the neighborhoods are officially named, the City will assess each of the community's most pressing needs. They will then implement top priority improvements over a five-year plan.

The Block Party will be tomorrow from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. at City Hall. The winning names of the 17 unnamed neighborhoods will be announced at noon. The party will have a "love" theme in honor of Valentine's Day. There will be food, live entertainment, fun activities, games, bounce houses, and opportunities to learn more about the city.

The City of Port St. Lucie has been working on major improvements to boost the local economy and create a better way of life for its residents. It is home to a diverse mix of people and cultures which you can see daily by who you'll meet and the stores you'll go by. In real estate you'll find everything from quiet, old Florida-style homes, to a lot of brand new construction, to waterfront mansions. The city has always been an area with great potential for families which is why it has seen an influx of continued growth over the past 10 years.

Come check out the new things happening in the City of PSL at the NICE Day Block Party tomorrow. Celebrate new beginnings, meet the mayor, and find out the many things there are to do here. 121 SW Port St. Lucie Blvd, Port Saint Lucie, FL 34984.
