Wakodahatchee Wetlands in Delray Beach has been named the best park in Florida by Money Magazine, a Time publication.

In their new article, "This is the Best Park in Every U.S. State," Money Magazine says Wakodahatchee Wetlands was chosen based upon its plentiful wildlife, beautiful property, and highly-rated visitor reviews.

Wakodahatchee, means "created waters" in the Seminole language, which is a perfect name considering the park was developed by the Palm Beach County Water Utilities Department. The 50-acre site used to be a wastewater treatment facility 20 years ago and the wetlands, now filled with flourishing life, were used as percolation ponds to allow reclaimed water to regenerate the water table.

The ponds and islands around the park are home to nearly 180 species of birds as well as turtles, rabbits, fish, frogs, raccoons, alligators and more. Wakodahatchee is in the southern section of the "Great Florida Birding Trail" which attracts many photographers.

There's no admission fee to get into Wakodahatchee and it's open everyday from 6:30 a.m.-7:30 p.m.

Stop by Wakodahatchee on your next day off and see why it's been chosen as the best park in the state.
