Rory Mcllroy Headlines List of Early Commits To Arnold Palmer Invitational
On Tuesday, the Arnold Palmer Invitational announced its early list of commits for the 2016 edition of the event and for the second straight year, Palm Beach Gardens resident Rory Mcllroy will headline the list of entrants at Bay Hill.
After having skipped the Orlando event put on by Arnold Palmer for the beggining of his professional career, Mcllroy decided to add the event to his 2015 schedule and finished in a tie for 11th at 11-under par.
“It’s been a longtime coming,” Rory said at his Wednesday press conference before last year's event. “I haven’t played this tournament for a few reasons over the past few years but it’s nice that it was able to fit in the schedule. I really like the course and I feel like it really sets up well for me.”
Mcllroy, who will take a few weeks off after his sixth place showing in Abu Dhabi, has already committed to the Honda Classic at PGA National and the WGC event at Doral during the Florida swing.
“It was wonderful having Rory here for the first time last year,” said the tournament’s Executive Director Scott Wellington. “I think he thoroughly enjoyed his experience at Bay Hill, and he obviously played very well. We are excited for his return, joining our elite field of the world’s best players.”
Joining Rory on the list of early committs to the Arnold Palmer Invitational include back-to-back defending champion Matt Every, Davis Love III, Bubba Watson, Adam Scott, and Mastercard ambassador's Graeme McDowell and Brandt Snedeker.
The Arnold Palmer Invitational will once again be held at Arnold Palmer's Bay Hill Club and Lodge. The 2016 edition of the event will take place March 17-20. For tickets and info on the event, visit arnoldpalmerinvitational.com
