How good will the fishing be during its opening month?

South Floridians enjoy a fresh snook dinner and some of the most excited fisherman have been rigged and tackle has been ready for weeks, just waiting for Monday September 1, 2015 opening of the fall snook season.

“I was at the inlet first thing Monday morning hoping to get a keeper snook,” said the avid Jupiter, Florida Local. The statewide season trails a three-month closure for snook on the Atlantic Coast and with the initial opening happening a week before Labor Day, stirring up larger crowds is expected to be centering in on the snook’s common areas such as Sebastian inlet, Fort Pierce and Jupiter, Florida as well as the Gulf Coast passes too!

The fall finger mullet, bait fish, are starting to migrate and kick in some very lively bait action which will account for more snook catches!  The fall baits are bringing in new life into all characteristics of fishing, from offshore to the Intracoastal backwaters. Anglers say that it was a great summer of catching and releasing these trophy snooks but hoping that the season will bring in some nice slot sizes for dinner!

September is the best month to target big fish without a boat too, you just need the correct line, reel and rod! The bait will move along the beaches at the inlet and then move down south. Fish when the bait is thriving. Tarpon are great to target this time of year as well!

“Anglers are reminded that the snook, a highly prized gamefish for its strong fight and exceptional flavor, cannot be bought or sold and is managed with strict regulations by the state. Each angler is allowed to keep only one fish a day. On the Atlantic Coast, excluding Monroe County (Florida Keys), the keeper must measure within the slot size limit of 28 to 32 inches in total length.”

The trend is bound to continue and hopefully we will see many snook selfies on:  SouthFLoridaH2O Facebook page!
