SOUTH FLORIDA ORGANIC "FARM to TABLE" FARMS
For those who care about nutrition, taste and quality of their fruits, vegetables, meats and poultry, local farms are selling through Community Supported Agriculture (CSA) memberships. With a significant shift in nutrition awareness, genetically modified and processed foods have become less desirable. There is a huge misconception that local organic fruits and vegetables are more expensive. CSA memberships and community plots keep costs down.
CSA's generally focus on the production of high quality foods for a local community, often using organic or biodynamic farming methods, and a shared risk membership–marketing structure. The essential design includes developing a consistent consumer group that is willing to fund a whole season’s budget in order to get quality foods. The system has many variations on how the consumers support the farm budget and how the producers then deliver the foods.
Many South Florida CSA farms sell to chefs of high-end restaurants. Local nutrition dense food is served up at many area restaurants including The Breakers and Café Boulud, Palm Beach; Café Chardonnay and The Cooper, Palm Beach Gardens; Coolinary Café and Ocean Blue, Jupiter and Tequesta areas.
Community gardens are an alternative to get farm fresh fruits and vegetables to your table. Locals can rent organic plots of their own to tend during South Florida’s winter growing season. Many community gardens offer workshops about gardening. It is a fun and relaxing.
