Try something different and go stargazing!  Experience the natural beauty that is the South Florida night sky.  Stargazing is the simply the act of observing stars, moons, planets and other objects in the night sky.  Humans have been observing the stars for thousands of years.  All that is needed is a clear sky away from the bright lights of the city.  Aficionados bring charts, binoculars and telescopes to see distant stars and constellations.

There are 88 constellations that can be seen from almost anywhere in the United States, but not all at once.  As the Earth makes its orbit, the placement of stars in the sky appears to move.

This weekend, telescopes are scheduled to be set up for the public to view constellations such as Orion and the Seven Sisters at Dark Sky Festive held at Okeeheelee Park, 7715 Forest Hill Blvd., West Palm Beach.   Jupiter and Venus, two planets now visible, may be seen if the sky is clear. Palm Beach County and the International Dark-Sky Association South Florida Chapter have planned, in addition to stargazing, nature walks, campfire, food trucks and children’s activities.

Check out the Dark Sky Festival, Okeeheelee Park, Saturday, February 21 6:00pm-10:00pm.  For more information, please call 561-233-2461.

Another option is to take in the night sky with a blanket and a picnic basket, head to the beautiful beaches, and enjoy the astronomical wonders!
