South Floridians Need to Stay Hydrated
It can be extremely warm in the South Florida summer and one must drink plenty to stay hydrated. No, not the frozen umbrella drinks or ice-cold brews, but h2o, good old-fashioned water. It's a simple question without an easy answer. We know that water is essential to good health, yet requirements vary individual to individual. So, how much water is enough?
First thing, your water intake needs depend on many factors, including your health, how active you are and where you live. To function appropriately, the body must replenish its water supply by ingesting drinks and foods that encompass water. The Mayo Clinic reported, “Every day you lose water through your breath, perspiration, urine and bowel movements. For your body to function properly, you must replenish its water supply by consuming beverages and foods that contain water.”
We are now left with the question, "how much water is enough?" Most people have heard the old adage, "8, 8-ounce glasses of water per day”. Is it a myth or a fact? There is no steadfast rule about how much water you need to stay hydrated daily. It’s the most widespread myth about drinking water. According to Consumer Reports on Health in a recent report on "How to Stay Hydrated" they distinguished that an “appropriate amount of water per day can vary "a good bit" from person to person. In general, people who are heavier or taller or more active need to take in more water to cover their losses. In addition, hot or humid weather might increase a person's need for water intake.
Finally, Consumer Reports recommends these following steps to stay hydrated:
1). Before you begin to feel parched drink water.
2). It is easier to drink small mouthful amounts during the day.
3). Carry a water bottle with you always so when you're thirsty it is available.
4). Know that all beverages you consume tally on the road to hydration, except for those containing alcohol.
