SPRINGTIME FISHING REPORT in SOUTH FLORIDA!
4.10.15 Fishing Report
Looks like an enjoyable weather forecast coming up for the weekend! The winds are Southeast and the South Florida waters are getting prepped up for the springtime fish bite!
OFFSHORE- The action has definitely perked up for the springtime! The dolphin bite has been great on all the South Florida Inlets and in theory should continue to do well through the weekend. The big dolphins are out 15-20 miles offshore and even biting closer in under the frigate birds. Reports have claimed over 40 pound dolphins are being brought up to the boat. (Trolling the usual dolphin spread with ballyhoo, strips, squid, etc.) Spring has called in some huge fish to South Florida! The Action has also picked up in the sailfish department. There are quite a few coming through and biting mainly due to the great conditions, clear blue water and current that has picked up with the breeze. Sailfish are being caught under the kite. *White Marlin were hooked up 3 different times on Wednesday off of Miami Beach, Florida in 180’. Mixed in has been some great size king fish, blackfin tuna, cobia and dolphins in 250’ feet of water on the kite or deep line. Starting to show back up is the Bonita, not quite as thick as summertime numbers just yet. But drifting near the edge you may hook up on some. Bottom fishing for snappers has remained good this week, Captain Howard of Red Beard Fishing had a yellowtail that was over 25” long!!! (Sardines and squid remain the baits of choice for all snappers.)
INSHORE- Snook bite has been off the chain and continues to improve on a weekly basis. The linesiders are coming out of their “wintertime funk” and making their way to the inlets and around the bridges at night. The springtime mullet is making its push back in and the linesiders are waiting for the bite. The Loxahatchee River continues to hold a huge number of them at monster sizes as well as Munyon Island flats during the early mornings and late evenings. (Top water plugs will create an explosive surface action and shrimp and live pilchards work too.) “Starting to hear about more and more mangrove snapper inshore...summer is coming quick! “ Sea trout have been hanging around pilings and manatee zones.
SURF/PIER- “The big news though again this week remains the very good pompano action. The pompano are being caught in good numbers from the Juno Beach Pier to Jupiter Island; with clams, sand fleas, shrimp, and fish bites being the baits of choice. Look for the pompano to bite best early in the morning and then again as the sun is going down. “
Enjoy the Beautiful April Weekend! #TightLines
