  Palm Beach County proclaimed the second Saturday in December the Andrew "Red" Harris Artificial Reef Day!  The Andrew "Red" Harris Foundation brings awareness to Palm Beach County residents and visitors of how important artificial reefs are to protecting marine habitats.   The Andrew “Red” Harris Foundation is a 501C3 founded in July 2014 that strives to build and enhance the marine environment in northern Palm Beach County by creating artificial reefs with huge 8,000 pound “Bahamian coral head” inspired modules to expand our marine habitat.    Andrew “Red” Harris was a promising young man and lifelong Jupiter resident. Palm Beach County has declared annually every second Saturday in December to be Andrew “Red” Harris Artificial Reef Day! The Andrew “Red” Harris Foundation was created to honor the memory of Andrew Harris, a Jupiter resident, who was struck by a boat while snorkeling in the Jupiter Inlet in 2014. The foundation’s mission will help assure the long-term health and vibrancy of the local marine environment where Andrew loved to dive and fish. This will be a day to celebrate Andrew’s life and the reef work done in his memory. 

Anyone and everyone who is a friend and supporter of the Andrew “Red” Harris Foundation is invited to join the Jupiter Civic Center at Carlin Park for a 4:00 PM party. The county is sponsoring a John Tesch concert at the nearby

The Andrew “Red” Harris Reef Foundation is a Jupiter based foundation dedicated to enhancing the marine environment. Memories of Andrew “Red” Harris are of a promising, vibrant and loving young man. The native Jupiter resident loved his family and friends dearly, as well as fishing and diving in ocean waters. Tragically, Andrew was struck by a boat while saving a friend's life snorkeling June 8, 2014.

The Andrew "Red" Harris Foundation hopes to assist protecting the wellbeing and vitality of our local ocean waters by building artificial reefs. The artificial reefs are donated to the Palm Beach County Artificial Reef Program. The Army Corps of Engineers have already issued the permits for placement sites in the ocean off Jupiter’s coastline.
