LagoonFest 2022 falls on November 5, 2022, from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. on Flagler Drive, overlooking the estuary. The Lake Worth Lagoon is not only in Lake Worth, it is a 20-mile-long urban estuary, where beauty is above and below the watermark. It travels along thirteen cities in Palm Beach County from North Palm Beach to West Palm Beach to Boynton Beach. The lagoon is a waterway in which you can go diving, kayaking, boating, fishing, birdwatching, or sip a cocktail at one of the fantastic waterfront restaurants. There are also inlets leading to the Atlantic Ocean from the lagoon.

Broward County has 26 miles of coastline, 24 miles of which are monitored for turtle nesting activity by the Broward County Sea Turtle Conservation Program. Broward County is considered a “medium-density” nesting area by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission and hosts an average of 2,000 nests annually.

Sea turtles are marine reptiles that have been around since the time of the dinosaurs, over 110 million years ago. There are seven species of sea turtles worldwide and five species found in Florida. These sea turtles are protected by federal law. Broward County protects sea turtles by supporting efforts to conserve their nesting and in-water habitats.

During the month of July, the Palm Beach Zoo in West Palm Beach invites you to take the kids to the zoo. The Palm Beach Zoo will be offering FREE admission for kids 12 and younger through July 31st. This offer is valid when a paying adult accompanies them. Please note that there is a limit of two free child admissions per full-price adult ticket. At nearly 1,200 pounds, Georgie is now the largest sea turtle ever found on Juno Beach. The Loggerhead Marine Life Center, located at 14200 U.S. Highway 1, Juno Beach, found her. Loggerhead Marinelife Center is undergoing improvements and a Capital Expansion currently. During this construction phase, they continue to work on rescuing and rehabilitating sea turtles will continue, and the animals in our hospital will continue to receive the highest quality care available. Currently, we do not have any sea turtle patients in our hospital.

This unique program helps to further research, rehabilitation projects, and the constant attention and medical care for the sick, injured, and endangered sea turtles kept at the Loggerhead Marinelife Center.

The Palm Beach Zoo & Conservation Society is a non-profit zoological organization located at Dreher Park in West Palm Beach. Take the kids to the Palm Beach Zoo, for a low-cost Palm Beach County outing during the month of September. The zoo will be offering FREE admission for children of the age 12 and younger through September 30, 2021.

Loggerhead Marinelife Center in Juno Beach is offering an opportunity for kids interested in saving turtles to become junior researchers. Youngsters can participate in a FREE program to learn what marine researchers do and how they help sea turtles and hatchlings at the center.

Children ages 5-12 can learn all about the marvelous world of turtles. The junior researchers will participate in a mock excavation of hatchlings. They will learn how math and statistics benefit conservation. Kids will explore how data collected over a long period of time helps in saving sea turtles. They will participate in releasing their hatchlings back out into the wild.
