Fourth on Flagler festivities, including fireworks, is 6:00 p.m. – 9:30 p.m. July 4, 2022, on the waterfront, 100 North Clematis Street, West Palm Beach.

Plan for the 4th on Flagler in West Palm Beach.   Great news! The fireworks are returning in-person this year after the pandemic forced it to be held virtually in 2020.  West Palm Beach officials announced that “4th on Flagler" celebration will take place on Sunday, July 4, 2021, from 7:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. along the Downtown West Palm Beach waterfront.  Fireworks can be seen on Flagler Drive between Banyan Boulevard and Fern Street.

The event will feature exciting and vibrant fireworks display, entertainment, refreshments, a car show featuring luxury vehicles, and a patriotic salute.

The fireworks will blast off at 9:09 p.m. over the Intracoastal Waterway.

Have you ever wondered why we celebrate the Fourth of July or how the Fourth of July holiday came about? Many folks think we celebrate the Fourth of July because it is the day we received our Independence from England but it was signed by Congress on July 2, 1777. Fireworks have been a part of the Fourth of July since the very first anniversary of the Declaration of Independence.  The custom of fireworks on the Fourth spread fairly slowly. They spread through New England and New York in the decades after the Revolution. But the firing of cannon and muskets and parades were much more common. In addition, fireworks at the time were very expensive, tricky to manage safely, and not nearly as impressive as the fireworks displays now.
