The history of the Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse is remarkably interesting. The lighthouse sits on top of a midden shell mound on the northern side of the Jupiter Inlet. This location in Jupiter was chosen in 1853 when Congress authorized the construction. The Jupiter Lighthouse project was assigned and designed by George Gordon Meade, a young Army Lieutenant. The Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse was constructed in stages over the next eight years. 

The Lighthouse was one of six Florida lighthouses assigned to Meade before being completed under the supervision of Lieutenant William Raynolds. Lieutenant Raynolds enhanced the final design by increasing the height of the lighthouse tower to 105 feet and doubling the masonry wall for protection from the storms. The…

You have an opportunity to walk on a spiral staircase with 105 steps to the top of the red structure for a panoramic vantage point of Jupiter waterways and vistas. Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse is a 108-foot historical landmark on a riverfront site with historical displays and natural features.

Operated by the nonprofit Loxahatchee River Historical Society, the waterfront lighthouse, and grounds exhibits feature over 5,000 years of regional history.

It is Lighthouse Anniversary Day today! Jupiter Inlet Lighthouse & Museum, located at 500 Captain Armour’s Way, in Jupiter, invites the community to celebrate the day on Sunday, July 10, 2022, until 4:00 pm. Enjoy family fun and games at the Lighthouse Deck. There will be churros and an ice cream truck visit.
