During the holiday season, many are awaiting package deliveries. Who does not hate missing a package delivery? Palm Beach County, as well as all around the United States, has been faced with a new scam – the missed package swindle. Cybercriminals know this.

So, they have created a ruse that involves leaving a note on your door claiming to have a package for you that could not be delivered. The note contains a phone number to call to reschedule the delivery. If you call the number, you will be greeted with questions related to your personal identity that can later be used to commit fraud.

Scammers use elaborate stories to play on emotions and gain trust. Southeast Floridians and people across the country should be aware of some of the most common scams. There are many ways to measure the largest scams, but most measure them by the number of people affected and the total dollars scammed.  

Watch out for these warning signs.  Here are a few of the most common scams used on unsuspecting people.

Lottery Winnings:

“Congratulations! You’ve won the lottery! We will need to collect taxes prior to your payment. I will send you the instructions to get this done.”
