If you have heard people talking about the Spring Equinox or have seen it on Google without knowing what it is, don’t worry! We’re here to help.

The Equinox marks the beginning of Spring. It is commonly regarded as the instant of time when the plane of Earth's equator passes through the center of the Sun. This occurs twice each year: around 20 March and 23 September. In other words, it is the moment at which the center of the visible Sun is directly above the Equator.

What Does It Mean

The word equinox comes from the Latin words for “equal night”—aequus (equal) and nox (night). On the equinox, the length of day and night is nearly equal in all parts of the world. With the equinox, enjoy the increasing sunlight hours, with earlier dawns and later sunsets.

Another interesting thing about Equinoxes is that they are the only two times a year that Sun only rises due east and sets due west for all of us on Earth.
