Today, it is clear that our culture and our existence are dependent on technology and all of its wonders. The world today is a digital one. From socializing, learning or commerce, technology is lifeblood and the world of real estate is no different. 

With apps, stunning websites and the ease of email communication the world of real estate is adapting. recently released a study indicating the power of this change. With apps and websites that allow customers to search by specific location and specific neighborhoods, buyers have the ability to maximize their search and their ability to compare and contrast homes on the market. The ability to do this gives both the buyer and the realtor an advantage. Most of the consumers will have their ideal home in mind before they connect with the agent. This in turn leads to a smoother and often quicker search, optimizing the speed and adding enjoyment to the process of finding their new home. 

In the Real Estate in a Digital Age report, the researchers at study the “process home buyers go through in their initial online search and how REALTORS® are connecting with customers in the digital space.” Here is a summary of their findings:  

  • In 2016, buyers worked with an agent 88 percent of the time to find their home, so trust in a REALTOR® is still king. While the initial process may start online, homebuyers turn to the advice from a trusted real estate agent.
  • In addition to the home buying process, REALTORS® also utilize technology in their everyday business practices. Staying up to date with new technology is important, but also cited as one of the biggest challenges for firms in the next two years.
  • Over 90 percent of real estate firms have websites, and the most common feature on their websites were property listings.
  • Along with web use, REALTORS® are also using their mobile devices for a multitude of different activities, with the primary being to communicate with their clients.
