Tiger Woods, Jack Nicklaus Headline List of Golfers Promoting Local Tourism
It's no secret why many of the top golfers in the world call South Florida home. Weather, no state income tax, and an endless list of courses and practice facilities for them to work on their games are just some of them. Well now, seven of the biggest of those names in professional golf have teamed up to tell the rest of the country, and world, why they should come visit South Florida, and specifically Palm Beach County.
Tiger Woods, Jack Nicklaus, Rory Mcllroy, Ernie Els, Rickie Fowler, Camilo Villegas, and reigning PGA Tour Rookie of the Year Daniel Berger have created a series of new videos that local tourism officials will use in hopes of luring more prospective vacationers. Each video features one of the golfers talking about why they live here and why others should visit. They have teamed up with Discover The Palm Beaches to promote the area to golf enthusiasts from all over.
"There are so many things to do here in The Palm Beaches, and golf is one where we offer fantastic options," said Ashley Svarney, Discover's Director of Public Relations and Communications. "We are just trying to bring it forward."
Local officials have already dubbed Palm Beach County as "Florida's Golf Capital". Palm Beach County boasts over 160 public, private, and resort golf courses and is also home to the PGA of America and The National Golf Foundation.
In his video, North Palm Beach resident Jack Nicklaus said he was drawn to Palm Beach County after playing in two tournaments in the area in the 1960s. The Ohio native said the weather and fishing were some of the biggest drawing points.
"I could have gone anywhere," Nicklaus said. "I could have gone all over the world and I haven't found a place I'd rather be then in Palm Beach County."
Nicklaus was one of the first big name golfers to migrate to Palm Beach County and put the area on the map for golfers to come live and play year round. Many of the young "top guns" in the game now call the area home, including Palm Beach Gardens resident Rory Mcllroy.Â
"Once I started to spend more time here, I started to discover the area, discover the beaches, and discover everything that the area has to offer," Mcllroy said in his video. "Whenever I wanted to settle in the United States, there was no better place for me to come then to here."
The plan is for the videos to be shared on the local tourism social media channels. The ultimate goal is to involve athletes from other sports to appeal to even more prospective visitors.
